New Canaan girls soccer keeps rolling, blanks Trumbull 6-0
Posted on Tuesday October 16, 2018

New Canaan senior co-captain Katelyn Sparks (12) goes head to head with Ridgefield’s Julia Bragg (20). — Dave Stewart photo The New Canaan girls soccer train continues to race down the tracks. The Rams won their third consecutive game against an FCIAC playoff contender when they annihilated the Trumbull Eagles 6-0 Monday at Dunning Field. Freshman Dillyn Patten scored the first goal, with an assist from sophomore Kaleigh Harden, just 42 seconds into the game and the Rams never looked back. New Canaan built a 3-0 lead by halftime and added three more tallies in the second half. The victory gives New Canaan a record of 10-2-1 and puts them in third place in the FCIAC standings. The Ridgefield Tigers lost to St. Joseph 2-1 on Monday and are also 10-2-1, but the Rams have the tiebreaker advantage based on their 1-0 win over the Tigers on Saturday. St. Joseph (12-0-1) and Staples (11-0-3) own the top two spots, followed by New Canaan, Ridgefield and Darien (8-4-1) in the top five. The Rams are also 7-0-1 in their past eight games, and have not allowed a goal during that span. They’ve outscored their opponents 43-4 this fall, with two of the goals allowed coming in a 2-1 loss to Wilton on opening day. New Canaan’s offense was in top form against Trumbull, and all of the Rams’ six goals were assisted. After the first tally, Dillyn Patten scored again, this time assisted by junior Olivia Bognon during a corner kick in the 16th minute. Seven minutes later, New Canaan made it 3-0 on a goal by senior co-captain Kendall Patten, assisted by her sister, Dillyn. Sophomore Emma Schuh scored with an assist from Harden in the 48th minute; and junior Katherine Lisecky and senior co-captain Katelyn Sparks added the final two tallies, both with assists from Kendall Patten. Senior goalie Jordan Paterson made three saves to blank the Eagles, while Trumbull used two goalies — Avery Rice and Maryna Barone — with each making 2 saves. New Canaan will play at St. Joseph at 4 p.m., Wednesday, with home games against Staples and Westhill to close out the regular season.
